Back in 2022, the PDC switched the traditional format of the Premier League Darts to what was hoped would be a more exciting, mini tournament every Thursday night with quarters, semis and final. Despite criticism from some quarters, there are no plans to deviate from this format in 2024.
“No we’re not looking at anything significant this year no,” Matt Porter has revealed in conversation with Online Darts. “You know, the feedback that we had, despite the few keyboard warriors who make their views known.”
“Their opinions are perfectly valid but ultimately, our opinion is the one that will get done,” he says firmly. “I get bored from saying that the Premier League format has evolved constantly over the history of the Premier League and it will evolve again. But for the time being we are comfortable how it is. It’s going to be in place in 2024.”
One thing that will change though is the Masters, which will no longer take place before the start of the Premier League. “We don’t want the Masters being overshadowed by it being all about who gets the last Premier League place and it was starting to get that way,” Porter explains.
