Peter Wright has qualified for the second round at the European Darts Championship at the expense of Gabriel Clemens. ‘Snakebite’ silenced the German crowd in Dortmund with a great finish in the final leg.
The Scot had again chosen a special set of darts to go with and was soon presented with the bill for it. Wright trailed 1-4 against Clemens, who among other things threw an 84 finish and a 13-darter.
Wright decided to switch arrows and came back to 4-4 via a 12-darter and a 70 finish. Both players then kept their own leg, after which Clemens started the last leg. The German Giant did an excellent job with scores of 140 and 180, but then fell silent. Wright came closer thanks to two 180s and snatched the win from Clemens with an 11-darter.
Gerwyn Price won a lot easier in the first round. The former world champion left Keane Barry defenseless 6-1 and will face Nathan Aspinall in the last sixteen.
