Alberto Razzetti Sets National 200IM Record With First Journey Inside 1:57 At Italian Open
Alberto Razzetti set a national 200IM record of 1:56.21 on the first day of the 2023 Italian Open Long Course Championships in Riccione.
With that time Razzetti booked a place on the team for Paris 2024 with Gregorio Paltrinieri heading for a fourth Games following his 1500 free victory in 14:41.38.
Razzetti – silver medallist in the short medley at the last two European Championships – split 24.97/29.86/33.32/28.15 to make his maiden journey inside 1:57, taking 0.92 off his previous Italian standard of 1:57.13 from April 2021.
“I’ve realised a dream and I’ve been chasing it for a while.
“I’ve also improved in the backstroke and this is the result of the great work developed with Stefano (coach Stefano Franceschi).
“Now I can tackle these months with more peace of mind and I’ll have the chance to smooth out the blemishes.
“I really wanted to get this result and it’s been a while since I felt so good in the water.”
The three-day meet serves as qualification for the team for the 2024 World Championships in Doha with Lorenzo Mora adding his name to the list with a 1:57.23 in the 200 back.
