Carlos Cuadras vs Pedro Guevara set for November 17 in Tashkent

While Juan Francisco Estrada’s planned super flyweight unification against Kazuto Ioka isn’t official yet, the WBC are going forward with their plan to have Carlos Cuadras face Pedro Guevara for the interim title. The pair will meet on November 17th in Tashkent, Uzbekistan to cap off the sanctioning body’s annual convention.

Grey from BoxRec broke the scoop late last week, adding that Bakhodir Jalolov will face Chris Thompson on the same card. Garbage fight, to be honest, but the main event looks strong. Though they’re not the cream of the crop at 115, they’re on similar tiers and at similar points in their careers. Cuadras (41-5-1, 28 KO) is looking to put together one last run after falling to Estrada and “Bam” Rodriguez, while former light flyweight champ Guevara (40-3-1, 22 KO) chases his first big win since 2015.

It’s worth noting that Guevara has only ever lost by split or majority decision to very capable operators in John Riel Casimero, Yu Kimura, and Kenshiro Teraji.

I don’t think either of these two should be in a title fight, but there’s value in two fading veterans duking it out instead of being fed to the next generation. Should be a fun watch at the very least.
