As the New Zealand Warriors look to shape their roster, they deemed that Josh Curran was not a part of that, granting him an early release to join the Canterbury Bulldogs.
Curran was informed by the club that due to the usual cap constraints that clubs are bound by, it would be unlikely that they would be able to retain him.
“We recently advised Josh that it was unlikely we would be able to re-sign him beyond next year,” said One New Zealand Warriors CEO Cameron George.
“We told him we were happy for him to see out his contract but if he did find an option that provided him with longer term security to please come back and talk to us.”
Over five seasons with the Warriors since making his club debut in 2019, Curran played in 60 NRL games.
“We’re pleased for him that he has found a new club and he leaves with our best wishes,” continued George.
We really appreciate the contribution Josh has made in his five seasons with us.”
Curran joins the Dogs pack to provide versatility, mobility and some ball-playing ability as they seek to get better.
“From the first time I saw Josh Curran play, he looked like a Bulldog to me,” said General Manager of Football Phil Gould.
“Once he became available, we just had to sign him up. At 24 years of age, his best football is clearly in front of him. We are very excited to have Josh in our Club”.
